Chip Taylor, Ph.D.

Dr. Chip Taylor is a clinical psychologist with more than 20 years of experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families. He has been in clinical practice since 2003 and has particular expertise in the evaluation and treatment of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), attention and executive functioning difficulties, academic concerns, and the psychological challenges that can accompany childhood and adolescent health conditions.

Dr. Taylor was born and raised in Radford, Virginia, and attended the University of Tennessee as a Whittle Scholar. He designed an interdisciplinary College Scholars major emphasizing Psychology and the Life Sciences and graduated summa cum laude in 1996 as the top graduating senior in the College of Arts and Sciences.

After completing graduate coursework in Experimental Psychology at Radford University, Dr. Taylor entered the Medical Clinical Psychology doctoral program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), earning his M.A. in 1999 and Ph.D. in 2002. His doctoral research examined the relationship between psychological interventions, health outcomes, and healthcare utilization among children with cystic fibrosis.

Dr. Taylor completed his predoctoral clinical internship through the Medical University of South Carolina/VA Psychology Internship Consortium, where he trained as a child psychology fellow. He subsequently completed two years of postdoctoral work examining the cognitive and psychological effects experienced by pediatric brain tumor survivors, including serving as principal investigator on a National Institutes of Health-funded research project.

Following his postdoctoral training, Dr. Taylor joined the faculty of the Medical University of South Carolina, where his responsibilities included clinical supervision of psychology interns and teaching within the College of Health Professions.

Throughout his career, Dr. Taylor's clinical and scholarly work has focused on ADHD, pediatric psychology, child and adolescent assessment, chronic illness, and the behavioral and emotional challenges facing children and families. He has published numerous scholarly articles on ADHD, the psychological effects of chronic childhood illness, and topics including bullying and heroism among school-age children.

In 2016, Dr. Taylor was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship and served as the 2016–2017 Fulbright Distinguished Chair in Brain Science and Child and Family Wellness at the University of Calgary.

Dr. Taylor brings his background in clinical psychology, academic medicine, research, and more than two decades of clinical experience to his work with patients and families. His approach emphasizes careful assessment, practical recommendations, and helping patients and families better understand both the challenges and strengths associated with ADHD and related psychological concerns.
